Kyoto Takoyaki Guide: 5 Best Takoyaki in Kyoto

Kyoto may not be known for its takoyaki, this quintessential Japanese snack is all over Kyoto to satisfy your cravings. In this guide, we highlighted the best takoyaki Kyoto.

Takoyaki is a round-shaped dough made with a batter with a wheat flour base. In the inside, it’s usually filled minced octopus, scraps of tempura, green onions, and pickled ginger. Usually comes with a sauce—a Worcestershire-like sauce and Japanese mayo—takoyaki is considered a snack that you will find on the streets of Kyoto.

Takoyaki is believed to have started in 1935 by a street vendor named Tomekichi Endo. Because it’s so good, the dish quickly became famous in the Kansai region and started spreading like wildfire in other regions.
